| Project SUMIT (Schools Using Multiple Intelligence
Theory) was a 3-year national investigation of schools using MI theory.
It sought to identify, document, and promote effective implementations of
MI. These are applications of the theory that teachers or principals associate
with increases in student achievement, test scores, quality of student work,
attendance, behavior, and parent participation. With this information, we
plan created and distributed resources and products that supported educators'
efforts to apply MI in sound ways.
These products include a set of practices or "Compass Points©" for using MI well, a resource library of curricula used in conjunction with MI, a collection of assessment materials, a series of case studies showing how educators developed MI-influenced practices, and a brief policy statement. The products are designed for educators in schools, district administrators, professional development consultants, and local and state-level policymakers who are seeking information about MI and its applications.
